Life in Monastery

Everybody spends their time according to their daily routine. The house which lives the monks is called monastery.  The daily routine of the Myanmar monks or the most important duty of them is very strange and interesting. Their daily program is not only learning, practicing the Buddhism but also maintaining the Theravada Buddhism because they teach the Buddhists according to Buddha scripture. The timetable of the monks is from dawn to nearly midnight. At 04:00 AM the alarmed clock is rung the monks and the novice get up and thirty minutes later they go to Prayer Hall for praying, accepting doctrine and meditation. About one hour later they have breakfast. After breakfast they prepare for begging rice around the cities or villages. When they return to the monastery they attend the morning class. In the afternoon they have their lunch. After lunch , they will have to attend evening class. Normally they study teaching of Buddha called Tripiraka but some of the monks learn English , computer and other in their own times. But Buddhist monks never take dinner due to the orde

The monks have to adhere 227 kinds of disciplines and there are many steps of examinations for the novices and monks. The final goal of them is to pass Tripitaka. The different between novice and monk is the age and others. The novice is under 20 and monk is over 20. Novice needs to adhere 10 kinds of precepts but 227 for the monks. All of Buddhists need to follow the rules below ,

1, Shall abstain from killing living being.

2. Shall abstain from telling a lie.

3 Shall abstain from committing adultery.

4.Shall abstain from drinking alcohol and taking any drugs.

5. Shall abstain from taking anything that is not given ( stealing)

Some of the people think monks are orphans but actually not. No one can force them to be a monk and they need to decide by themselves to go to monastery. It is really hard to stay in monastery so some monks leave the orders after a few years.
