Golden Rock or Kyaikhteeyoe pagoda

There are many famous pagodas all over Myanmar and every states and divisions has their own famous pagodas. Kyaiktiyo Pagoda is famous pagoda in Mon State. The situation of this pagoda is amazing and mystery because the huge rock is perching at the edge of standing stone. It seem passionate location almost drop out but not. Buddha hair relic was enshrined inside the pagoda that was built on the shaken Rock. The perched rock and the Pagoda are gilded so Kyaiktiyo Pagoda is well known as Golden Rock. The term Kyaiktiyo came from Mon language Kyaik means pagoda, Ti means hermit and Yo means overhead. Therefore the whole meaning is the Pagoda which is overhead the hermit’s head. The Pagoda is located on a high mountain a little far from Kyaik Hto in Mon State and southeast from Yangon. Kyaikhtiyo pagoda exists on the highest peak (1100 meter above sea level) of the Paung Laung mountain ranges. In the past pilgrims went hiking to the top of the mountain but nowadays they drive uphill by open truck. The local stalls are selling herbal leaf, cortex, fruits, flowers and traditional food. At Kyaiktiyo Pagoda the Nine Thousand Lights Festival is held in December the illuminative light of the Pagoda can attractive to cause breathtaking. Moreover another attractive thing is the panoramic 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains from the summit. The crowded season of the Pagoda is during winter and summer because Mon State is very rainy in monsoon. So Kyaitiyo Pagoda has become a popular place not only local pilgrims but also foreign visitors.
