Migun village

Mingun is not a town but it is a holy land of Buddhism because this place is famous about the religious buildings such as Mingun Pahtodawgyi, gigantic and unfinished Pagoda, Mingun Bell, the world’s second largest bell, a beautiful Myatheindan Pagoda, Mingun Tipitaka Monastery and Grandma U Zon’s Nursing Home. In the period of Kongbon Dynasty Mingun was not a village which was the King Bodawpaya’s temporary place to control the building site of the Pagoda. The term Kun or Gun means a temporary place and Ming means King therefore this place is called Mingun. Sometime King Botawpaya stayed this place for subbatthing. Although Mingun Pahtodawgyi was unfinished but the recently step is very huge. The sample of this Patodawgyi can be seen there. You can compare these two and image if the Patodawgyi would be finished how large was it. The world’s second largest Bell was cast near that place and it was moved to present place when the river was flooded by floating. Another proud fact of Mingun is the Monk U Wi Saita Tharabiwontha who passed Tritipitaka in oral at the sixth Buddha Synod founded the Monastery at Mingun and has learned Buddha scripture. Next fact is Mingun has the first Myanmar Nursing House. Grandma U Zon founded this House to look after the helpless grandma and grandpa. Mingun is famous about Irrawaddy Dolphins because they haunt along the Irrawaddy from Kyauk Myaung to Mingun. Therefore today Mingun is the best destination to attract foreign visitors around Mandalay.
