Pyu Ancient Cities

Pyu tribes were settled in the dry zone of the middle Irrawaddy River from 200 BC to 900 AD. There are about 10 Pyu Ancient Cities in Myanmar among them Hanlin, Beikthano and Sri Ketra are the most historically significant so they are recognized as World Heritage Site by UNESCO. These cities are conformed according to the criterion of UNESCO. The original place of the Buddhism   is India and this doctrine spread to South East Asia via Pyu cities because they had communicated with India for a long time. Pyu cities are the prototype of the cities of South East Asia because they founded the model of urban culture ancient cities, built the walls and moat, invented the best irrigation system and planted and produced the products therefore later South East Asia cities are influenced by the atmosphere of Pyu cites. As soon as the development of these facts birth the establishment of literate Buddhist monastic communities, construction of religious building in brick, the ashes of pots were buried at one place who were the same relation. That unique mortuary culture has been rooted in Myanmar society since that time. These concepts  came from India culture but Pyu were did not adopt them and they created to become their own style. Bagan is famous for its unique architecture but these techniques  came from Pyu Ancient Cities. At Sri Ksetra Baw Baw Gyi Pagoda is prototype of stupa and Lay Myat Hnar Temple is prototype of temple. For building of memorial hall and the huge religious building has practiced in our society since Pyu period so we donate the big monasteries not only in the cities but also at the villages. Pyu’s irrigation systems are not unspoiled and the firms have been growing since they were formed. Moreover the first literature of Pyu can be found on the stone tablet, golden plate and some religious building. When you ask me a question where is the Pyu, the answer is I am here because when Pyu Cities were destroyed they moved to Bagan and mixed with Myanmar and then they were dominated by Myanmar.
